POLTAVA REGION Brief geographical reference
Poltava region is one from the 25 Ukrainian regions which is situated at the left bank of Dnepr in its middle flow and occupies the territory of 28,8 thousand km2. The region extent from north to south is 213,5 km and from east to west is 245 km. Region is positioned between 50° 33' and 48° 45' of latitude North and 32° 05' and 35° 30' of longitude East. Poltava region borders on Chernigov, Sumy, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Kirovograd, Cherkassy and Kiev regions. The region has advantageous physic-geographical position, plane relief, temperate continental climate, considerable reserves of mineral resources.

- in art – masters of Reshetilovka carpets and Oposhnia ceramics.
Poltava region belongs to that historical lands which became the kernel of Ukrainian State forming. Its historical and cultural properties, natural resources, powerful national economic complex play very important role in building of State.
Situated in Dnepr middle flow, modern Poltava region (in economical structure) is the industrially-agricultural region famous for the output of iron-ore, gas and oil, producer of freight cars, railway cars, diamond instrument and other products of car building, with powerful agriculturally- industrial complex, advanced light, food and processing industries.
The region is attributed to five Ukrainian regions concerning the total output of goods and service presentation.
Infrastructure of region is characterised by the developed net of railways and motorways. There is an airport which is intended for the reception and maintenance of passenger and transport airplanes. Cargo transportation along the Dnepr (Kremenchug river port) plays very important role. Routes of gas pipe-lines Urengoi – Pomari – Uzhgorod, Shebelinka – Poltava – Kiev, Eletsk – Kursk – Bendery, of oil pipe-lines Kremenchug – Kherson, Kremenchug – Kirovograd, Kremenchug – Brovary go along the region.
The industry of Poltava region is presented by more than 350 of big enterprises. The leading fields are fuel industry, ferrous metallurgy, car building, light and food industries, which provide more than 80% of industrial products manufacturing.
Processing of carbohydrate raw material is carried out at CJSC “Ukrtatnafta” (Kremenchug), where nearly 70 types of oil products are manufactured. This is extremely important direction of region investment policy which has already given its results and, in due course, they will undoubtedly become more considerable.
The region has powerful mining extractive industry. Poltava ore mining and processing enterprise (Komsomolsk) extracts more than 12.5 % of iron-ore in Ukraine.
Lorries of holding company “Avtokraz”, railway cars of PJSC “Kryukovsky Railway Car Building Works”, electric motors of JSC “Poltava works Elektromotor”, medical glass of JSC “Poltava works Medsklo” are widely known outside Ukraine. Numerous international awards of these enterprises create the image of the region and our country in the world.
The system of agricultural production is presented by the enterprises of all property forms and farm economies. The majority of cattle-breeding products are processed at the immediate proximity of production site. Such structure is created with assistance of regional administration which is headed by Valeriy Asadchev. He also actively maintains the scientific potential of the region: 28 organisations and enterprises. More than 1.8 thousand of workers are employed in research work.
Nearby is the crystal queen of Ukrainian mineral waters – Mirgorodskaia. Its spring is life-giving power, which is derived at “Mirgorod” spa not only by Ukrainians. Guests are met by songs, flowers, salt and round loaves and it makes them fall in love with wheat- and sun-flower colour of this land which is poured from hearts of people – creators of their fortune and song land.
