Domestic underground cars
After USSR disintegration and formation of Ukraine as a separate state, on its territory there was no works specializing on underground production and, therefore, virtually all rolling stock for needs of Ukrainian undergrounds was bought in Russian Federation.
Making use of production and design experience received as a result of creation of domestic passenger cars for Ukrainian railways, having positive experience of the collaboration with undergrounds of Ukraine, which has been commenced by “Kryukov railway car building works” public company from mastering the production of spare parts for equipping the undergrounds and manufacture of tunnel escalators, and taking into account the wishes of underground workers, the enterprise management began to work out the question of creation of domestic rolling stock for underground needs. The part of no small importance in this decision making has been played by the information on considerable tear and wear (up to 70%) of transit car fleet available at undergrounds of Ukraine.
Making use of own design developments and having studied the experience of partners, the collective of “Kryukov railway car building works” public company had started in 2003 the experimental elaboration of first domestic underground cars in close cooperation with specialists of Kiev underground and Ukrainian scientific-research institute of railway car building.
As far back as 2005, on August the 24th – the Independence Day of Ukraine, the head and intermediate cars designed, manufactured and received designations as models 81-7021 and 81-7022 had been demonstrated to the President of Ukraine - V. Yushchenko and the government members during opening the underground station "Borispolskaya" in Kiev. The full-fledged five-car train had arrived on 26th January 2006 for testing to electric depot “Darnitsa” of Kiev underground.
At the present time the first train undergone comprehensive tests and accepted by the interdepartmental commission is in permanent exploitation on “Syretsko-Pechiorskaya” line of Kiev underground and has been already estimated worthily by passengers, having received quite a few positive responses.
The train cars meet all necessary norms and requirements foreseen for products of this type.
In the structure of car bodies there are applied the solid-drawn sheets with application of low-alloy steel for external sheeting and the glass-reinforced plastic for decorative masks on head cars.
The cars are equipped with glued hermetic vacuum glass packets and sliding plug doors located in four equally spaced doorways, what improves passenger traffic in comparison with other manufacturers.
The cars are equipped with system of forced ventilation and air conditioning, places for disabled persons in wheelchairs, system of video surveillance and control, systems of door blocking against unauthorized opening, what along with improved interior, sufficient passengers capacity, noise and heat insulation of saloons corresponds to European standards.
Though the list of advantages of created cars is sufficiently large, there are certainly some shortcomings, since it is still the first domestic underground train.
The staff of Kryukov railway car building works understood and was aware always that the new technique creation is sufficiently labor-consuming and not always smooth process, but it is necessary to solve problems and hardships instead of waiting that someone will solve them for you. This is precisely why the enterprise is always the initiator of decisions in respect of advancement of science intensive projects in Ukraine, such as the social purpose transport manufacture branch creation.
Therefore, never stopping at what has been accomplished, the enterprise workers unify and simplify the car creation production processes, analyze constantly their work, control the questions of guarantee service of cars, consider the wishes of passengers and exploitation men, apply new developments, introduce alterations and necessary improvements into newly manufactured products.
At present, despite difficult economic conditions, “KRCBW” PC continues active work in respect of implementation of asynchronous traction drive for underground head car, creation of new bogies for underground cars of own design, ensuring the uninterrupted and trouble free operation of units and mechanisms, created and being projected products, improvement of quality of finishing the car interiors and creation of more comfortable conditions both for journey of passengers and for further exploitation and maintenance of cars.
The way from idea to result is never and nowhere simple and fast, especially in transport engineering, but the ultimate goal will be achieved without fail, if to go persistently and insistently to it, exactly so the eight-thousand collective of “Kryukov railway car building works” public company tries to solve its problems.
